The Small Differences That Can Change Your Life.
The Small Differences That Can Change Your Life.
It can be extremely easy to think that you don’t have the power to change the world, just think about how massive the world is and how comparably tiny we all are. However you would be mistaken in thinking this, because each and every one of us has the potential to make a difference in the world around us. While we might not be able to solve all of the world's problems, we can do something to make the world a better place. People lucky enough to live in a democracy have a direct say in how their government and society are run, and activism is a great hobby to make a difference and meet new people. But making a difference isn’t just about incomprehensibly large and complex problems taking plastic out of the ocean (although this is incredibly important too!). It also involves how we treat the people around us. For example, reaching out to someone when they might be struggling, even if it doesn't seem like a big deal, a small act of kindness can greatly improve someone's day. In my experience, I used to have a friend who would sometimes get nervous when it was storming outside, so one night I stayed up on a call with them until they were able to fall asleep. It wasn’t anything huge, but it was something that helped, something that made someone feel a little better, it made a difference. Another important way that we can make a difference in our world is to treat ourselves better, by not holding ourselves up to impossible standards, and by taking care of ourselves we can make our own lives a lot easier. I’ve done so many things that I’ve regretted, said things I wish I didn’t and said nothing when I should have said anything. It has been easy for me to let these mistakes overwhelm me, leaving me to embrace pessimism and self-pity. But now, instead I choose to focus on the positive side of things, I learn from my mistakes and try to improve and make myself a better person, and thus I make my life better one day at a time. While change might seem difficult and overwhelming, just remember, you don’t have to be perfect (we’re only human after all); but change is still something worth working towards. Because even the smallest of actions will still make a difference in yours or someone else's life.
